  • Dr Gwee Kok Ann is a gastroenterologist practising at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore. He specialises in the management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), chronic constipation, persistent diarrhoea, helicobacter pylori infection (bacteria infection in the stomach) and reflux oesophagitis (reflux of stomach contents into the food pipe).
  • Dr Gwee completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the National University of Singapore in 1985 and undertook postgraduate training in the United Kingdom and Canada. He then obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Sheffield, UK for his thesis on post-infectious IBS.
  • As a specialist in IBS, Dr Gwee is the founding president of the IBS support group in Singapore and a member of the World Gastroenterology Organisation’s IBS guideline review team and. He is also the lead author for the publication 'Asian Consensus on the Irritable Bowel Syndrome'.
  • Dr Gwee’s research on irritable bowel syndrome has been published in international journals, such as the Lancet journal and American Journal of Gastroenterology. He is also a reviewer for these journals. He is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and the Indian Journal of Gastroenterology, as well as an associate editor of the Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility.
  • Dr Gwee regularly shares his research at international scientific meetings, such as the World Congress of Gastroenterology (WCOG) in Montreal, Canada in 2005 and the joint international neurogastroenterology and motility meeting in Boston, USA in 2010.
  • Dr Gwee is an adjunct associate professor of medicine at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. He is also the scientific chair of the Asian Neurogastroenterology and Motility Association and part of the editorial advisory board of the monthly index of medical specialties (MIMS).
